Please note, while GPs endeavour to complete requests within 10 working days, clinical work must take priority.

Reasons for charging fees

• It is important to know that many GP services are not covered by the National Health, GPs are self-employed and have to cover the costs of their staff and building in the same way as any small business.
• Consequently all practices will charge for the services they offer which are not covered by the NHS contract, including private medicals for HGV and insurances, etc.
• In the case of the Market Harborough and Bosworth surgeries the income earned from private services is ploughed back into the practice and not taken as private income thus allowing for additional nurses, medical services, administrative cover or equipment purchase.
• GPs do not have to carry out non-NHS work on behalf of their patients but our Partners do so although patients are also free to attend any surgery for private medical work.
• We believe that our rates are competitive within the local area although all practices charge differing rates based on the British Medical Association guidance and recommendations.
